Was there a time in your life when you strive to achieve a restful sleep because of your bed? Maybe you are too tired and you want to sleep right away but your mattress does not offer the comfort you deserve. Or perhaps, you have a condition that requires you a soothing bed but your current spring bed can’t deliver it. In most cases, many of us just wake up and get out of our bed with excruciating back pain as if we’ve been beaten overnight when we just slept.

A soft and relaxing bed surface is what we need for a luxurious rest. Unfortunately, not all bed can deliver this. In fact, some hefty priced mattresses still disappoint us when it comes to this issue.

Before you feel hopeless about beds, here’s good news! Inflatable mattresses may help you relieve your back pain. This is not a hype because a number of airbed users have already experienced this. In fact, one of the health benefits that you can get from this mattress is its ability to provide relief from back pains.

If you want to enjoy the same benefit this article will help you understand why airbeds are not bad for your back and what makes inflatable mattresses helpful instead.

Why Do You Experience Back Pain?

Why Do You Experience Back Pain
source: tendermattress

Personally, there are times when I felt terrible even after sleeping for long hours. I can’t pinpoint the reason why. If just like me you are wondering too, James Menta provided some potential reasons why we experience back and shoulder pain. Check it out below.

Back injury – If you have an injury, no matter what the cause, a strained disc is putting pressure on the nerves that may result in back pains and aches in other body parts affected with the controlling nerve.

Weak back muscles – This may cause bad posture and cause too much stress on the spine that may result to back pain too.

Poor sleeping posture and lifestyle – If you work entails long hours of sitting and little to no exercise this may cause back and shoulder pains too. The tension in the neck muscles is thought to cause your headaches, and neck and back pains.

Lack of support from your sleeping surface – Yes, the quality of support that you enjoy from your bed matters. If it is too poor or doesn’t offer an adequate support for a long time, it may cause spine joints dislocation and compressed nerves, which also leads to chronic back pain.

Too much support – Sleeping on a bed that is too firm that it offers “too much support” can be bad too as this can also cause your spine to be in an unnatural position and cause the same problem as when you are sleeping in a too soft bed.

The Real Solution is Here!

Firmness Adjustment! Inflatable mattresses are inflatable and deflatable, so you can adjust its firmness. Yes, firmness is the solution to alleviate your back pain.

Here’s a photo of how the firmness of your mattress can affect the quality of your sleep especially on your back pain complaints.

The photo shows that the mattress with the right support aligns your spine for an enjoyable rest and revitalizing sleep. A too soft or hard bed has the same effect. It does not align your spine which may lead to back pains.

The firmness of traditional spring beds is not adjustable. When you purchase one, you have to decide if you prefer a soft or hard bed because you have to live with it for years. Unless, of course, you can afford to purchase another one if you feel uncomfortable with your first purchase. Nevertheless, this is too costly and it is not practical to keep on buying a new mattress. What you need is a mattress with adjustable firmness.

If you don’t feel great upon waking up on your inflatable mattress, you can adjust its firmness until you get the right support that suits your body. Some airbeds come with customized pre-setting relative to firmness like plush, medium or firm. It automatically adjusts the air pressure in your inflatable air mattress to achieve your preferred settings. You can’t do this with your spring bed.

Aside from allowing you to adjust the firmness airbeds work wonderfully to give you a good rest. Here’s a short list to help you understand how this mattress works for your benefit.

  • It aligns your spine for a better sleeping posture. We already know that a bad sleeping posture can cause back pain.
  • It alleviates your pressure points for a better blood circulation. That is why hospitals use this type of bed when the condition is crucial.
  • It distributes your weight evenly, so your muscles won’t overwork during the night.

Factors You Have To Consider if You Have Back Pain And Want To Purchase An Air Mattress

If you need a bed that offers the perfect firmness and the right support, an inflatable mattress is for you. However, before you head to the local store near you or order it online, you should check our buy guide for air mattresses.

Raised air mattress – Most inflatable mattresses are designed with raised height. This does not only give you the convenience of getting in and out of bed but it also provides a better support for your spine and muscles. When looking for a bed, make sure that its raised height is somewhere between your knees and hips.

Built-in air pump – The airbed you purchase should have these features so you won’t have to do the manual pumping. This act needs a hard labor and will be a strain for your rickety back.

Airflow control – This feature enables you to adjust the firmness of your bed according to what is most comfortable for your back.

PVC Material – This material is durable and most importantly, it is comfortable. It doesn’t leak air in the middle of the night and it is not slippery when you turn. Of course, you don’t want to make a wrong turn that your back can’t handle while you sleep.

Conclusion

Inflatable airbeds are not bad for your back but it is helpful in soothing back pain. A number of individuals claim that this type of mattress is not as great as the traditional beds when it comes to support and firmness. However, if you keep on pushing them and ask for the details, they can’t support their theory why traditional beds are better.

Meanwhile, based on the statement above, the airbed’s adjustable firmness is its strong edge against the traditional beds when it comes to alleviating your back pain. Most inflatable airbeds also come with raised height for additional support and for easier slipping in and out of bed.

Overall, sleeping on airbed has some advantages over the traditional coil spring bed. Do you agree that inflatable mattresses can soothe your back pain? Have you experienced it first hand? Are you willing to try?

How Long Do Inflatable Mattresses Last?

Inflatable Mattress

Inflatable Mattress

Inflatable mattresses are a lot cheaper than traditional beds. However, they also have a shorter warranty and lifespan. It is difficult to think of an airbed that will serve you for a decade or more but purchasing one that only works for a couple of days or weeks is a poor buy as inflatable mattresses are not that inferior too. So, what’s the usual lifespan of an inflatable air bed?

Average Lifespan of Airbeds

Average Lifespan of Airbeds
source: aliexpress

According to Sleep Like The Dead, airbeds have good longevity and lifespan. It might be difficult to believe but yes, they are. However, this can be costly.

The reason for the longevity of inflatable mattresses is its design. Most of its parts are replaceable. For instance, if the pump is defective you can either fix or replace it. If the air bladder, air pump or comfort layer is problematic you can change it.

If you are good at handling your airbeds and if you are willing to replace any defective part, your inflatable mattress can last up to over 8 years. However, it has fair durability. Over 25% of the airbed owners reported that at least one part of the bed needs replacement over the course of their ownership.

The lifespan of your inflatable airbed depends on several factors like its quality which largely depends on its raw material, the frequency of usage, how you handle it and even the environment where it is used. So, let’s check out how long inflatable mattresses could last by examining the various elements that could affect its longevity.

Raw Materials Used

Raw Materials Used in Airbeds
source: airbedreviews

One of the things I love about inflatable mattresses is the variety it offers. It comes in different sizes, quality and prices. There are very cheap inflatable mattresses that work well and very expensive ones that are packed with powerful features.

When it comes to the quality of inflatable airbeds, users have different opinions especially when you relate it to its price. Many believe that the more expensive an item is, the more reliable it is. However, some suggest that all airbeds are the same so going after the cheaper ones is more practical.

I suggest that you look at the quality and not the price. By this, I meant that you consider the materials used, the pumps whether its built-in or external, and the ease of setting up and storage to name a few. These rare the factors that directly affect the lifespan of your airbed, so if you want to own one that lasts examine these elements closely.

  • Materials – The durability of an airbed could be attributed to the materials used in manufacturing it. Airbeds are made of different materials like PVC, laminated vinyl, rubber or textile-reinforced urethane. If you go for PVC make sure that it is at least 20 gauge or higher. Gauge is the unit to measure the thickness of vinyl. The thicker it is the better. A pinhole leak would change your entire airbed experience. So if possible, get an airbed that it is made from heavy-duty material. The type that does not leak easily.
Do not get a bed that is as thin as a regular plastic that it can hardly support your weight. When the material is too thin, chances for its survival is slim.
  • Pump – Inflatable mattresses may be equipped with a built-in or external pump. The former is more comfortable and convenient to use but the latter is more durable and cheaper. If you purchase an airbed with a built-in pump you just need to plug it and turn a knob to inflate or deflate the mattress. Yes, very user-friendly, isn’t it?

Unfortunately, in most cases, the pump gets defected prior to the mattress itself. The worst part is, repairing a built-in pump could be costly that replacing the entire airbed is much more practical. So, if you want an airbed that could last long an external pump is more agreeable. You can replace it easily because it is cheaper and it doesn’t matter whatever type you get.

The materials used in building your inflatable mattress contribute to its quality and durability. Thus, it is very important that you check the quality in terms of its raw materials and not the price.

Your Manner of Handling

Your Manner of Handling an Airbed
source: walmart

The way you take good care of your airbed mattress matters. Handling and storage is an important factor in its lifespan. You cannot just fold it and store an airbed anywhere you like. Here are some tips to lengthen your years with your airbed.

  • Keep it away from sharp objects – The best way to keep your inflatable mattresses in its best condition is to keep it in a safe place. Make sure that it is far from any sources of punctures and cuts. Also keep your pets away from it. Your dog or cat might scratch it and worse puncture it.
  • No jumping – One of the things that kids often love to do in the spring beds is jumping on it. Unfortunately, this is a big no-no for inflatable mattresses. The sudden force can severely damage the product. Each impact will cause the air to go downward and stretch the bottom and side fibers. Aside from this, it might remove the air plug and the air hole. In case, this happens, it will impair the mattress’ ability to keep the air inside.
  • Do not inflate too much – The product has a limit of inflation tolerance. You should be careful not to over inflate it as it will fully stretch the mattress providing no room for strain and pressure that mitigates stress.
  • Only deflate a few times if possible – Yes, I understand that what we love more about airbeds is its ability to inflate and deflate but it doesn’t really mean that you have to do this often. Sleeping on an air mattress everyday is possible but you don’t have to inflate and deflate it every day. Unless, of course, you don’t have enough space for it in the morning.

Most use this to accommodate their guests who only stay for a night or two. They deflate it to store it and inflate it again when they have to. But did you know that performing a full deflation and inflation often also shortens its lifespan? So, if you do this often, expect to replace your airbed sooner.

  • Use a mattress topper – This will make your sleep more comfortable but it also offers additional support and protection to your airbed.
  • Proper storage – If you are not using your inflatable mattress, keep it in a clean and dry place. Keep it away from extreme temperature.
  • Use it with care – Aside from proper storage, be a responsible user. Clean your inflatable mattress, re-inflate it regularly and maintain its air pressure. Also, always pay attention to the weight limit. Inflatable mattresses are designed to cater different weight around 400 to 600 lbs.

Conclusion

It is true that inflatable mattresses have impressive longevity but keeping on replacing the defective parts can be costly. In fact, there are times when it is more practical to replace the defective airbed with a new one.

Nevertheless, you can do something to extend the lifespan of your air mattress. The tips above may add years to you and your inflatable bed.

Do you agree that airbeds can last up to 8 years? Are you willing to spend to fix the defective part of your inflatable mattress or do you find it more practical to get a cheaper airbed and just replace it with a new one if there are problems? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Inflatable mattresses are not as durable as the traditional beds but these mattresses have an impressive longevity because almost all parts are replaceable. If you need some tips on how to repair, patch, fold and deflate and clean your airbed this article is for you.

Managing your airbed is not that difficult anymore. Check our guidelines below to be guided accordingly.

How To Inflate Inflatable Mattress

To make airbeds usable, we need to inflate it but the process depends on the model of the unit. Some inflatable mattresses are equipped with a built-in pump that makes the process easier. You just need to turn the knob to “inflate” to accomplish the process.

However, if your airbed is not equipped with a built-in pump then here are some tips to inflate your air mattress using a pump and without a pump.

Inflating With A Pump

  1. Open the valve cover.
  2. Insert the pump nozzle in the hole or valve opening. This process applies whether you are using an electric pump or a manual one. The pump should make a tight seal with the valve.
  3. If using an automatic pump, turn it on by plugging it into a power source or by powering it with a battery.
  4. If using a manual pump, then start pumping. Manual pumps come in hand and foot pump. It is not as convenient as the automatic pump as it needs manual labor.
  5. Close the valve. When the mattress is already firm, remove the pump and screw the valve or hole cap back.

Inflating Without A Pump

If you don’t have a pump, do not worry because there are still several ways to inflate your airbed.

  1. Use your hairdryer – Hairdryer is one of the most popular methods in inflating air mattresses without a pump. Just turn it on and hold it against the open valve to start filling your bed with air. The process could be slower but it is effective. When using a hairdryer be careful to use cool air. Inflatable mattresses are made from plastic or vinyl, so you should keep them from heat. Otherwise, it will melt or deform.
  2. Bike or tire pump – Any device that can blow air can help you inflate your bed. So, your bike or tire pump will work too but achieving a tight seal around the pump nozzle can be challenging. If you are using this method, you can get a suitable adapter nozzle or increase the width of the pump’s existing nozzle.
  3. Vacuum cleaner – If your vacuum comes with a “blow” function, in addition to its default “suck” function so that is usable. If you have the ordinary home vacuum, you can convert it to enable it to blow air instead of sucking it. To do this, just remove the bag and connect a long and narrow cleaning nozzle to the hole where the bag was originally attached. The air will shoot out of this nozzle to inflate your mattress.
  4. Garbage bag – Open the plastic bag and swing it up and down to catch plenty of air. Gather the open end of the bag to trap the air and bring it to the mattress’ air valve. Transfer the air by squeezing the bag. Repeat the process as needed.
  5. Use your breath – If you can’t find any material to help you inflate your airbed then use your breath. Wash the valve with soap and water to keep the air hole clean. Take a deep breath, pressed your mouth into the air hole and exhale. Repeat the process until the bed is firm.

Now you know how to pump inflatable mattress using the different means available in your household. So don’t fret out if you don’t have a pump because

How To Deflate Inflatable Mattress

The process of deflating your mattress also depends on the model of your unit, similar to inflating it. Some are equipped with automatic inflate and deflate. However, if you have to do the process manually, follow the steps below.

  1. Open the valve cover. Once the air hole is open the mattress will begin to deflate.
  2. Fold or roll to force air out. When the mattress is on its mostly-deflated state there is still air inside that you have to remove manually. You can force the air out by folding or rolling the mattress from the end opposite to the air hole.
  3. Vacuum – If you want to speed up the deflation process, use a vacuum to suck the air out.

How To Repair Inflatable Mattress

One of the most common issues among inflatable mattresses is leaks. When your airbed leaks, no matter what the cause is, your sleeping experience becomes uncomfortable. A pinhole leak, for instance, could wake you up in a flat bed the following morning.

So, here are some tips on how to patch inflatable mattress to revive your airbed’s condition.

Locate the leak – The first thing to do is find the leak. In most cases, this is the most challenging part as finding it is not really easy. Make sure that your airbed is fully inflated before doing any of the five different methods below.

  1. Check the valve – The valve is usually placed right next to the air pump. It looks like a detachable plug, which you usually remove when deflating your airbed. The valve is one of the parts that are difficult to repair so if yours is defective, call the manufacturer for a replacement.
  2. Stand the mattress up and search for leaks– Most of the time; leaks are at the bottom of the airbed due to accidentally leaving things underneath. Once the bed is ready listen for hissing sounds. You can also wet the back of your hands and run it 2-3 inches over the mattress. If there is a leak it will quickly evaporate your wet hands making it feel cool. Repeat this process in all the sides of the mattress.
  3. Use soapy water – Soapy water is one of the most effective ways in searching for leaks. Just fill a small bucket with water and a few drop of dish-washing liquid. Use a sponge and wipe the surface of your mattress. Star near the valve, at the seams, underside, and top. When you see bubbles you have already found the leak. Wipe the soap away and let the surface dry.

Mark the leak – Once your leak is identified circle it with a pen or marker. In this way, it will be easier to find when you do the next step.

Clean dry the surface – Before you add a patch make sure that the surroundings of the leak are clean and dry. This is to ensure that the patch will stick to the mattress well.

Cover it with a patch – Make sure that the airbed is completely deflated when doing this step. Some manufacturers include a patch on their repair kit. If you don’t have it, you can purchase one in outdoor stores. If the leak is small, patches made for cycling should work. When buying, make sure that the patch kit works on plastic or vinyl. The size of your patch should have at least 1-2 centimeters extra from every side of the hole. To apply, read the instructions that come with it and follow it.

If you don’t want to buy one, then you can have a DIY patch. A duct tape can work as a temporary fix or you can cut a malleable plastic like your shower curtain to improvise one. Attach it with glue and make sure to use a strong and reliable adhesive like the superglue, KrazyGlue or Gorilla Glue.

Leave the patch – It will take 2-3 hours for the glue to complete dry after attaching it to your mattress. You can also place a heavy object at the top of the patch to keep the pressure.

Inflate the mattress and check for leaks – After adding the patch, it is time to test if there are still leaks. Inflate the mattress overnight and check it the following morning if it still deflates. If no air escapes, then your airbed is ready for use again! Congratulations!

How To Fold Inflatable Mattress

How To Fold Inflatable Mattress
source: aliexpress

In most cases, we fold our inflatable mattresses after using it because we don’t have enough space at home or maybe because we are using it outdoor during camping. Either way, we need to fold it properly so it will fit in its storage bag accurately.

Here are some guidelines to fold inflatable mattresses properly.

  1. Deflate – First, you have to open the valve to release the air. Depending on the design of your airbed you have to manually or automatically deflate it. Inflatable mattresses with built-in pumps are easier to deflate; you just have to turn the controller to “Deflate.” If you have to do it manually, then you can lay on your bed to help press the air out.
  2. Fold up the sides – Once the inflatable bed is fully deflated start by folding the sides.
  3. Roll it – Roll it like a sleeping bag towards the valve to ensure that all air will be removed.
  4. Store it – You can place it in its carry bag and store it in a dry place for safety. Most inflatable airbeds come with a storage bag for this purpose.

How To Clean Inflatable Mattress

How To Clean Inflatable Mattress
source: stainmastercleaning

Inflatable mattresses need to be maintained as well. You have to clean it as often as possible or after every use. Otherwise, insects might bite it and cause holes. Your mattress will leak and this is what inflatable mattress users hate the most.

So, to lengthen the lifespan of your airbed, here are some tips for you.

Usual Cleaning

Use a vacuum – Eating is a big no-no in your bed. However, there are times when it is more fun sitting and talking with your friends while binging on your favorite chips on your inflatable bed. Perhaps, during overnights or camping. Thus, star your cleaning with a vacuum. Just sweep the vacuum across the surface. Make sure that all debris is collected.

Wipe with alcohol – Moist a cloth with alcohol and wipe the airbed. Scrub the areas with stained.

Rinse the air mattress – Soak the cloth in clean water and wipe the inflatable bed again to clear the alcohol and any remaining debris.

Air-Dry the mattress – After rinsing, allow the inflatable mattress to air-dry completely by placing it outside under the sun.

After cleaning the inflatable mattress, if you will not use it, fold it properly and place it in its carry bag. Store it in a dry place.

Cleaning Mold and Mildew

Putting the airbed under too much moisture will result into molds and mildew. If you encounter this problem, here are some solutions for you.

  1. Wipe the airbed. Use a dry cloth and wipe off the mold or mildew.
  2. Expose it under the sun and let the mattress air dry.
  3. Use alcohol and warm water. Mix isopropyl and warm water and use a sponge to apply the solution over the top of the air mattress affected with mold and mildew. Some use vinegar, instead of alcohol for molds.
  4. Apply disinfectant. Disinfectants will kill the spores lingering over the fabric.

Cleaning Urine-stains And Odor

  1. Remove the sheets. Remove the wet sheets and blot out the excess fluids.
  2. Apply an enzyme-based cleaning product. Gently spray this substance over the fabric on the top air mattress. This will help digest the uric acid crystals from the urine stain.
  3. Apply baking soda over the stain. When the urine-stained area is already clean, pour some baking soda over it. Let it set overnight.
  4. Vacuum the baking soda the next morning.

Customer Review for Intex Pillow Rest Raised Airbed With Built-In Pillow
source: walmart

Intex is impressive when it comes to delivering a comfortable and superb mattress. Similar to Intex Raised Downy Bed, this inflatable mattress is great in giving you a good rest. Initially, it’s difficult to enjoy a luxurious sleep in inflatable beds as it has poor reviews before due to leaked air but surprisingly this is one of the best.

Whenever I sleep at this mattress, it has no difference with my regular bed when it comes to comfort. Thus, I don’t mind offering my bed to a relative when someone visits me. In addition to this, it is very affordable compared to other mattresses that offer the same features. However, don’t expect this mattress to last for five years or more especially if you intend to use it daily. Although this is designed with durability, it has a shorter lifespan compared to spring beds.

I’ve learned from other users that it only lasted for six months to a year. After several uses, part of the bed popped up making it unusable. Mine is still new, so I can’t comment much on this but at the time, it is very satisfying and comfortable to use.

The self-inflating mattress is an open-cell foam pad that is enclosed in a plastic case with an air valve. It is basically like a sponge in a plastic bag. when you squeeze it, the air gets out and the air bed deflates or compressed. When you open the bag it sucks air and expands.

Most self-inflatable mattresses are rolled up in a carry bag. To see it self-inflate, you have to take it out the bag, open the valve (this allows the foam to expand), and keep your distance. The foam expands as it sucks the air, hence it is called “self-inflatable mattresses.”

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Rapid Inflation – Depending quality of the pump and the air bed, you can inflate it to full size within minutes. Yes, just a couple of minutes. For example, a raised twin size can be inflated in approximately 5 minutes, a non-raised slightly smaller camping mattress can be ready for an approximately 3 minutes.
  • More Affordable – There are already tons of air beds manufacturers today and due to the high competition some well-known brands like Coleman and Intex bring their prices down. These companies produce high-quality inflatable mattresses at a very affordable price. For example, a twin air mattress can be purchased for as low as $30 compared to a twin memory foam that costs $300, which is 10 times the price of your air bed.
  • Odor Free – If you notice, when you purchase a memory foam mattress there is a distinct odor. However, inflatable beds use PVC material so there is no nasty off-gassing odor when you purchase a new one.
  • It allows you to share a bed conveniently – The adjustable firmness of air beds offers tons of positive factors. Now you can share beds without arguing if you should pump more air or not because most inflatable beds have two separate inner chambers allowing you to make one more side firmer and the other side softer depending on your preferences.
  • Practical and useful – Inflatable mattress can be used in many ways. You can use it as an extra bed in your hotel room or at home for your guests. You can take it in your outdoor activity be it on the beach, in your garden, at the rooftop where you want or in your next camping for a comfortable rest. Wherever you are, if you want to lay comfortably, air bed is the answer.
Cons

One of the many concerns that we have about using inflatable mattresses is the comfort it offers compared to traditional beds. Is it practical to get one?

We usually purchase an airbed for a reason. In most cases, we want to get an airbed to accommodate guests, especially if we don’t have an extra bed. As the host, when a family member or friend visits us we want everything to be smooth and comfortable for them. In some instances, we want to own an airbed for our outdoor activities because it is very convenient to transport and easy to operate.

However, our concern remains. Are inflatable mattresses comfortable?

Yes, airbeds can be comfortable!

I can say that inflatable mattresses can be comfortable too. There are tons of inflatable mattresses in the market now but despite the comfort it promises, only a few deliver.

Inflatable air mattresses come in different sizes, built and structure. There are cheap and expensive ones and there are uncomfortable and comfortable ones. The various designs and comfort it offers only shows that this type of bed can also offer the relaxation and pleasure that we usually enjoy in traditional beds.

However, the search for the most comfortable airbed could be challenging. Also, this factor varies from individual to individual. One might prefer a hard bed, another a soft mattress. The great thing about airbeds is that you can adjust its firmness to suit your preference.

For example, Wenzel Insta-Bed is one of the most inconvenient airbeds I tried but it is also one of the cheapest. It has no built-in pump, so I have to use my blow dryer to inflate it. The mattress is very uninviting, though, that I felt restless when I woke up the following morning.

I give this extra points for being lightweight and easy to fold. Unfortunately, it is not equipped with a carry bag to make it more convenient for storage and transport.

On the other hand, another bed from the same company, Insta-Bed Raised Air Mattress with Never Flat Pump is one of the best I tried. Its high-raised design and flocked top are very comfortable. It offers a bed-like experience, which makes me love it more.

See, the same company manufactures beds with different quality. The more comfortable bed is more expensive but your sleeping experience is so much better. This is why finding the most comfortable inflatable mattress can be thought-provoking. However, if you just do your search well, it is not impossible.

Meanwhile, though there are inflatable mattresses that are very comfortable to use, it cannot be denied that most aren’t that pleasant to sleep on. So it is understandable if you want to improve your airbed experience.

In the next section, I will share with you some tips to make your inflatable mattress more comfortable and enjoyable. This will be very helpful to give yourself or your guest a good night rest while sleeping on your inflatable air bed.

Tips To Make Your Airbed More Comfortable

  1. Get a bigger size –  If you will get a twin size, two guests might struggle to keep themselves comfortably in it. The bigger the size, the better. This will also ensure that a bigger guest will fit adequately in it. So, if your place can hold a plus size, go for it.
  2. Make sure it allows you to adjust the air pressure – One of the highlights of airbeds is its ability to enable you to adjust its air pressure according to your preference. For instance, some already offer customized setting that includes plush, medium or firm. So, make sure that this feature is present when you purchase your inflatable mattress.
  3. Look for a durable one – Do not expect airbeds to last a lifetime. However, do not get a poor quality air mattress either. Make sure that it is at least 20 gauge vinyl or higher to prevent tiny holes from developing in the material. If this happens it will affect your sleeping quality as it will not be able to hold the air for long and you might find yourself in a flat bed in the morning.
  4. Place your inflatable mattress on a soft surface – Most airbeds are equipped with vinyl or plastic underneath it to make it stay in place. Without this, the bed might move every time you turn. That’s why you should place this on a carpet because if you place it on a hardwood floor it might squeak all night and you won’t love the noise. If you don’t have a carpet at home, just place a blanket at underneath it.
  5. Convert it to a traditional bed- By this, I mean to recreate the look and feel of a traditional bed. For example, add a headboard. Also, you may add a pillow top, sheets, blanket, and a comforter.
  • Headboard – You can do this by placing the bed in front of a wall. This will keep the pillows from falling off the bed.
  • Pillow top – This will be very helpful in giving you the warmth of a regular bed. The air inside the inflatable mattress will likely become colder overnight, so an extra layer of padding on top of the mattress will keep the temperature balmy as you sleep. If you have sleeping bags, you can also use it. Just keep it open and place it on top of the inflated mattress.
  • Pillow – A good pillow adds comfort during your sleep as it can reduce the risk of neck and back pains. Intex recognizes this so they built Intex Pillow Rest Raised Airbed with Built-in Pillow and Electric Pump. However, some love to sleep with pillows on their knees or between the legs for a more convenient sleep and built-in pillows are not movable so always add pillows on your airbed.

Converting an inflatable mattress to a regular bed will give you a better rest because of the comfort and warmth it offers which is similar to what traditional beds deliver. Isn’t this what you wish to accomplish in your airbed?

If you are asking yourself, “Is inflatable mattress good?” This article should answer it. Airbeds are comfortable to use and they are even effective in alleviating neck and back pain.
